Dallas Joins Cities Across Texas to Celebrate First Official Women Veterans Day in Texas.
DALLAS, TEXAS ─ State Representative Victoria Neave (HD 107 - Dallas, Garland, Mesquite), author of legislation to designate June 12th as Women Veterans Day in Texas, is partnering with the Veteran Women's Enterprise Center to co-host a Dallas-area celebration of Women Veterans Day on the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Women Armed Services Act on June 12, 1948.
State Representative Victoria Neave and the Veteran Women's Enterprise Center are partnering with the City of Dallas and Dallas County to host "Stepping in Solidarity: Morning Formation" at the Dallas City Hall Flag Room from 8 am to 9 am on June 12, 2018 (registration opens at 7:30 am and seating is limited), to recognize all women veterans and provide special recognition to the women veteran from the WWII, Korea and Vietnam eras in each City Council District. History of the State of Texas Women Veterans Day:
During the 85th Legislative Session, State Representative Victoria Neave filed House Bill 2698 to designate June 12th as Women Veterans Day in Texas. The language of this bill was added on as an amendment to Senate Bill 805, which was signed into law. June 12th was selected as the day to celebrate Women Veterans Day because the Women's Armed Services Integration Act, which is the law that allowed women to serve as regular members of the military, was enacted on June 12, 1948.
“Here in our great State of Texas, we have the highest number of women veterans of any state in the country—over 177,000 women veterans live and work in our communities," said State Rep. Victoria Neave. "Women Veterans sacrificed for us and I was honored to be able to pass this legislation with the help of women veterans who traveled across the state to testify in support of the legislation so that we can honor their contributions and sacrifices.”
