MAKE YOUR SUMMER STRATEGIC!

In 2023, VWEC received raved reviewed for Strategic Growth Plan Writing 8-Week Writing Clinic in collaboration with BCL of Texas and Comerica BusinessHQ. Final evaluations stated that the intensity of the weekly program was more reflective of an incubator or accelerator, and that more time was needed for the training portion along with additional hands-on support and mentoring. To address these recommendations VWEC has launched the Dallas Strategic Growth (DSG) Accelerator offering elements of an incubator with free coworking and an accelerator with structured training and potential grant funding.

The DSG Accelerator is a part of United Ways' Economic Inclusion for All-Small Business sponsored by Comerica Bank with an objective to drive and enable economic growth by empowering and bolstering the foundation of small businesses, specifically focusing on those owned and operated by underrepresented groups.

This program is open to entrepreneur women associated with the military and Comerica BusinessHQ members free to the community.

The DSG Accelerator offers 10-half-day sessions focused on the development of a Strategic Growth Plan--appropriate for both new and established business owners.

The curriculum covers all elements of constructing a strategic plan with a focus on growth. Participants will develop/update their business objectives with a focus on Vision/Mission/Value, Market Research, SWOT Analysis, and setting SMART Goals. The second segment of the program kicks off with a full day devoted to financial forecasting. The series concludes with the development of strategic solutions for Customer Acquisition, Marketing, Sales, and Technology focused on driving business innovation and growth.

In addition, there are regularly scheduled half-day hands-on group co-working support sessions and one-on-one mentoring.

Cohort outcomes include participants’ development of a written one-page Strategic Growth Plan, and Pitch Deck to compete for one of three grants at $3K; one $2.5K; and $1.5K.

Seven Growth Grants will be awarded for:

1) Overall Most Improved

2) Top Revenue Percentage Increase

3) Best Sales Strategy implemented/evaluated

4) Best Marketing Campaign launched/evaluated

5) Workforce Development Strategies implemented

6) Most effective use of Technology & Automations

Kickoff Women Veterans Day 2024 at our International Trade Breakfast featuring Josie Orosco.

Kickoff Women Veterans Day 2024 at our International Trade Breakfast featuring Josie Orosco.

This year, VWEC will kickoff Women Veterans Day with our International Trade Breakfast featuring Josie Orosco, SW Chapter, Executive Director, United States Mexico Chamber of Commerce.

With launch of the VWEC’s International Trade Cohort, exclusively for Veteran Women Entrepreneurs, designed to empower women veteran entrepreneurs to seize global opportunities and expand their businesses internationally. Through a comprehensive program encompassing monthly training, one-on-one mentoring, and access to personalized international trade guidance, VWEC will ensure selected participants have access to the necessary providers and support to effectively navigate the complexities of international trade.

Now more than ever is the time to support Veteran Women Entrepreneur toward the exploration of new international markets. In a 2022 report by the International Trade Council titled "Women in International Trade," highlighted that women are increasingly asserting themselves in the realm of international trade, challenging stereotypes, and contributing significantly to global economies. Entrepreneurship offers a vital avenue for women in trade, with women-owned businesses playing a pivotal role in driving economic growth and job creation.

Moreover, a study commissioned by the Office of International Trade (OIT) found that “minority and women-owned firms over-index in selling abroad, emphasizing the importance of supporting and empowering women entrepreneurs in international trade endeavors.” With over 95 percent of the world's consumers residing outside the United States, international sales present a significant growth opportunity for small businesses.

Josie Orosco knows the challenges experienced by women seeking opportunities in international trade and has worked progressively to open doors and create a pathway to success for all.

Josie Orosco, SW Chapter, Executive Director

United States Mexico Chamber of Commerce

Josie Orosco has been the Southwest Chapter, Executive Director, for United States Mexico Chamber of Commerce in Dallas since 2004. In this role, Josie works with business, organizations, and chambers locally, nationally, and internationally with not only Mexico but other countries like Columbia, Canada, China, Guatemala, and Turkey. One of her events brought 26 Mayors from Mexico to Dallas which was a historical moment in time and her Kickoff Speaker was Guanajuato Governor Miguel Marquez.

Josie is in contact with international chambers, international companies, governors, and ministers of economic development of Mexico on projects for the USMCA such as Mexico’s Manufacturing Alternative and the North American Working Group.

As Executive Director she has had the privilege of meeting President Uribe of Chile and the following Presidents of Mexico thru Annual Chamber events in Washington and Mexico: President Vincente Fox, Felipe Calderon, Enrique Pena Nieto and Carlos Salinas De Gortari, who signed the NAFTA Agreement, which is now the USMCA Agreement.

As a servant leader, Josie provides guidance and leadership on several boards such as the North Texas Commission where she has served for more than 16 years. She has also held board positions with the Irving International Affairs Board, North Texas Food Bank, Xerox Management, Dallas Seniors Affairs, Mexico Chamber of Commerce and Dallas Urban League.

Honoring National Military Appreciation Month - Realize Your Vision Lunch & Learn

Join us!

As part of our Envision the Future: Realize Your Vision Series . We are thrilled to invite you to our first quarterly Realize Your Vision Lunch & Learn for May in honor of National Military Appreciation Month.

These gatherings provide attendees with invaluable opportunities to network, celebrate achievements, and be inspired!

According to Merriam-Webster, vision is defined as, “the act of power of imagination.”

A vision is a way to answer the “why” for your business. It gives reason to your strategies that align with your actions, choices, hopes, and desires. Giving your daily activities meaning and purpose.

Having a vision gives purpose to your goals and empowers you to create a roadmap forward.

What are you imagining for your business? What are you doing to turn your dreams into reality? Join us on a journey toward realizing your vision as we kickoff our first Lunch & Learn with this quarter's featured speaker Erica Dobbs, President & CEO, Dobbs Defense Solutions.

Erica's leadership and her company's impact have received widespread recognition, evidenced by accolades such as the 2020 G2Xchange Women in Leadership Award, the Entrepreneurial Women of Impact 2023, and inclusion among The Daily Record's Veterans in Business and Law Honorees of 2023. Further honoring her contributions, she has been awarded a Governor's Citation for National Women Veteran Day. Additionally, her exemplary contributions have led to her nomination for the SBA Veteran Person of the Year and inclusion in Maryland’s Top 100 Women.

Erica Dobbs' journey is more than a narrative of personal and professional achievement; it is a compelling story of how military discipline, corporate innovation, cybersecurity expertise, and a deep-rooted commitment to people and community service can converge to create lasting impact.
