Women Veterans Day 2019 - S.H.E.R.O.E.S. Afternoon Celebration

  • El Centro College 801 Main Street Dallas, TX 75202 United States (map)

On June 9, 2017, Texas Senate Bill 805 designating June 12th as Women Veterans Day in the State of Texas, was signed by Governor Abbott and passed into law: https://legiscan.com/TX/text/SB805/2017.

The hard work of Representative Neave, and her colleagues in the Texas House and Senate resulted in Women Veterans Day; our offical day of awareness, recognizing President, Harry S. Truman’s signing of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act on June 12, 1948, which allowed women to serve as regular members of the military.

Last year, the State of Texas celebrated its first official Women Veterans Day and the 70th Anniversary of the 1948 Women’s Armed Services Integration Act with major celebrations held in Austin, Dallas, Denton, Frisco, Houston, Lubbock, San Antonio, Tyler and many more cities and towns across the State. In 2018, Dallas held a full array of Women Veterans Day events engaging nearly 300 women veterans and patriots.

This year, Dallas continues our tradition of acknowledging Women Veterans Day in collaboration with the Office of Representative Neave, Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD), Veteran Women’s Enterprise Center (VWEC) and our Community Planning Committee, focusing on our 2019, theme S.H.E.R.O.E.S. (Serving, Honoring, Empowering and Restoring Our Esteemed Service-women).

Celebratory activities will take place at El Centro College, on Women Veterans Day, June 12, 2019, commencing at 12:30 p.m., with an Opening Ceremony inclusive of senior members of the collaborating organizations, community/veteran leaders and our sponsors acknowledging this day of awareness. Additional activities will take place at the college from 1:15 p.m. to 3:30p.m., featuring an educational exhibits of women serving in each war era “Veteran Women’s War Walk”, a documentary and panel discussion highlighting “Her Stories of Services,” and a vendor showcase of Women Veteran-Owned Businesses. This afternoon cerebration will include Swag Bags for the first 75 female veterans to arrive at the event and lunch.

The Evening Reception is specifically designed to engage our working female veterans. All are invited to joins us for an informal celebration featuring a variety of veteran entertainers, music, food and fun educational activities from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The first 50 new female veterans to arrive at the evening reception will receive a Women Veteran Day T-Shirt.

All are invited to join this day of awareness for women who have and are serving in our military!
